Caught red-pawed Our Visitors
Each animal's newest sighting, most recent first. How videos work
No visitors yet. The cameras are watching. The animals are pretending not to notice.
About
The Bear Trap Trail Cams
Two motion-activated cameras keep watch around Bear Trap, day and night. Whenever something wanders past they snap a photo (and can record a short clip). Every hour this page picks up the new sightings, and each one gets a best-guess name for the animal in it.
Animal names are identified automatically and may occasionally be wrong. People are never shown, with one famous exception: the elusive Stephantelope. Spotted something wonderful? Tap the heart to add it to Family Favorites.
How videos work
The camera plan includes only a handful of video clips, so we save them for the good stuff. We automatically fetch a video only for:
- the first sighting of each kind of animal in any 4-hour window, so a new animal always gets its video;
- up to 3 automatic videos a day in total;
- and never for frames with no animal, or with people.
Every other sighting is kept as a photo in that animal's archive. If the camera recorded a clip, it's available on demand: open the photo and choose Get the video, and it usually arrives within a few minutes.
